Dear Readers,

We hope you will enjoy this book. It contains lyrics in both English and Polish of ten popular songs and singing games, and a vocal music score with chords. Clear step by step movement and dance instructions are outlined precisely with the text. In addition, a CD of the recorded songs with accompaniment is included, so that parents, grandparents, teachers, and children can immediately enjoy the songs and games. Each page has an original “wycinanki” (Polish cut-out style) illustration, designed by the artist, Joanna Bielska, which can be reproduced for coloring or craft projects.

We want this book to be an authentic resource for anyone interested in folk culture. It will help to pass on Polish national traditions to children and grandchildren of Polish Americans, who may not be fluent in Polish. Some information about us:

We are teachers by profession and have an extensive background in Polish folk art, music and dance. We have been friends since joining the Polish Scouting Organization ZHP as young girls. We danced with the Polish American Folk Dance Company and organized many folk art and dance workshops in the New York Metropolitan area. We are members of the Polish American Teachers Association, which has its headquarters at the Kosciuszko Foundation, and Marie Sklodowska Curie Professional Women’s Association, of which Maria is the current president. Maria is also a member of the General Casimir Pulaski Memorial Parade Committee and is on the teaching staff of the Krakowianki and Gorale Childrens’ Dance Group of Greenpoint. Janina is a member of the National Dance Association and Dance and the Child International which fosters dance opportunities for children.
